Ribblesdale Youth Cricket League - Secretary's Annual Report 2016
Present Chairmam, Vice Chair, Secretary, Youth Development Officer and Baxenden, Brinscall, Chatburn, Cherry Tree, Euxton, Feniscowles, Great Harwood, OICCC, Read, RVRCC, Salesbury,
Apologies were received from The League President, Edenfield, Padiham and Whalley
The Chairman, Mr. Slinger, opened the meeting at 7.35pm and welcomed everyone and invited the Great Harwood representative, Mick Deasey, to make a statement. Mr. Deasey informed the meeting that his club’s youth teams would play the majority of their 2017 cricket in the Lancs Colts League but that they wished to enter our Birchall Cup next season. He told us that his club had enjoyed their long stay in the RYCL and wished everyone the very best for the future.
The league executive had had prior notice of what Mr. Deasey was going to say and in view of the fact that Great Harwood intend to continue entering the Birchall Cup league meetings would continue to be held at his club.
Following this the Secretary, Mr. Holden, reported that Clitheroe has resigned from the RYCL thus following their senior cricket to the LL. The Secretary has written to Clitheroe thanking them for their membership of the league and for the huge contribution they have made over many years to our competitions.
The Chairman then asked the Secretary to report on the events of the 2016 season.
ROLL OF HONOUR 2016
Birchall Cup Clitheroe
Under 14 Cup Euxton
Under 12 Cup Euxton
Arthur Shaw Cup RVRCC
Arthur Shaw Shield Great Harwood
Under 15 Blackburn Cup Euxton
Under 13 Shield Euxton
Under 11 Shield Euxton
The newly formatted Birchall Cup was a total success, everyone, players, umpires, supporters et al, liked the format and cricket played. Thanks to Padiham for hosting a wonderfully successful Finals day.
The Secretary stated that all the competitions had been completed but that some clubs had not played all their games due to the weather.
The outstanding league performance was undoubtedly all the teams from Euxton who are champions of all the leagues and have won the under 12 and under 14 cups. Euxton, as RYCL under 15 representatives in the LCB club knockout, won this competition and then went on to represent Lancashire in the National Cup, They lost to Hallam from Sheffield in the semi-final but this was no disgrace as Hallam were the eventual National Cup winners. Congratulations were offered Euxton.
The other good news is the sensational rise of RVRCC who in their first season of formal competitive cricket have only lost two games in the league and have won the Arthur Shaw cup. It was pointed out that these feats were done playing all their games away as they have no ground. Congratulations were given to RVRCC and huge thanks offered to all the clubs who hosted their games.
The Youth Development Officer, Gerard Metcalf, then gave his thoughts on under 18 inter league cricket where he has plans to begin the 2017 campaign during the coming winter by holding indoor nets and coaching, then outdoor nets in the early part of the new season and to create a more balance team who are trained to play as a team. He also stated that Andreas Sudnik, the team manager, may be standing down so clubs were asked to source a new team manager, a first team senior player who is a level two qualified coach. Gerard also asked all clubs to consider finding more people to enrol for the LCB coaching education courses so that we can produce much better young players. Anyone interested in either being team manager or doing training as a coach should contact Gerard.
There was no report from our Inter League manager, Steve Bone. (Email received after the meeting, from the LCB organiser and sent to all clubs, please read)
The Vice-Chair, Paula Greening, then reported that whilst the re-arrangement procedures and results on the web site had improved the same clubs keep letting the side down. It must be remembered that the league is only as good as its clubs and the league executive cannot do their job without clubs fulfilling their duties. Things still have to improve at the defaulting clubs.
The Chairman then addressed some of the ideas and issues that will need to be addressed at our AGM in November.
Mr. Slinger will be stepping down as Chairman at the coming AGM and Paula will be taking over. Steve Bone will be put forward as a member of the executive, this will give us the strongest league executive we have ever had with members having vast experience of all levels and grades of youth cricket in Lancashire and beyond.
Jason Rawson has resigned as manager/coach of our under 12 inter league team, due to work commitments. We therefore need another person to help Farouk with this team.
There was some discussion about our under 12/14 cups bearing in mind the changes made to LCB competitions. Some thought we should keep our under 12/14 cups to align with the inter league. Also it was thought that the cup competitions should be played earlier in the season and that Cup Final days should be held, similar to the 2016 Birchall Cup. This was received enthusiastically by the league executive and therefore this needs to be sorted out at our AGM
Clubs discussed a new under 17 league but decided that 3td team cricket adequately covered the under 15 to 18 age group. This need to be kept in mind due to new senior fixture formats.
The Chairman invited clubs to submit new or amended rules for the AGM in good time so that the Secretary can send out to clubs for their considerations. All propositions to be sent to the Secretary.
The following email was received from Steve Simpson of Baxenden after the close of business.
We have one person going to the junior meeting tonight for Baxenden CC.
But we have a question for you about the under 11s from our Manager.
1 ). Is it possible to split the under 11s into 2 sections to reduce the traveling ?
2). To start the season the 1st week in May and finish it by the 2nd week in August ?
These are just some of the questions asked by the parents of our kids.
Please pass on and ask other clubs.
I have replied asking that they submit this to the AGM
The Chairman thanked all club officials, groundsmen, coaches, and umpires for their dedicated support during the season.
The AGM will be held at Great Harwood on Tuesday 29th November 2016 at 7.30pm. All clubs must be in attendance. Notice of meeting, Agenda, and Proposals received, and minutes of last AGM will be forwarded nearer the time.
The Chairman closed the meeting at 8.30pm
